Premam Telugu Movie Review, Rating(3/5): Naga Chaitanya, Shruti Hassan, Madonna Sebastian

Naga Chaitanya’s new film Premam is based on Malayalam hit of the same name and while the original Premam weaves magic through it’s natural screenplay and cinematography, Telugu Premam is just a commercialised version of Love and Loss which finally loses the magic that the original created.

Premam Telugu Movie Review(2016):

When the Telugu remake was first announced with the casting calls focused on Naga Chaitanya as Nivin Pauly and Shruti Hassan as Malar, a lot of criticism was received for the Telugu version as fans of Malayalam movie thought it would be near impossible to create a classic as the original. The criticism began to slowly fade away but returned double strong when the Trailers and songs of the movie were released. Naga Chaitanya looked too sheepish as a teenager in love and only some glimpses were shown in the promos. The cinematography was too sharp and the Telugu remake lost it’s ground on reality. The Telugu audience were excited to see their favourite movie stars in those iconic roles and the movie has finally hit the theatres on October 7, 2016. Here is the Premam Review, Rating along with basic story line, positive and negative aspects of the film.

Story:

Premam tells the story of Vikram(Naga Chaitanya) through his 3 love stories, the first one in his schooling with Hema(Anupama Parameshwaran), the second one with Sithara(Shruti Hassan) and the final one with Madonna Sebastian. The film adapts to how the younger generations behave in college and schooling and tells us some important aspects about Love, Life and friends and their importance in everyone’s lives.

Highlights:

  • Camera work
  • Original BGM adaptations by Gopi Sunder
  • Naga Chaitanya’s act in second half

Negatives:

  • Over commercialisation
  • Songs
  • Cinematography
  • Duration of movie

Critic Review: Usually, the final moments of the film make you decide about the movie if it’s a hit or a flop. But Premam is a movie where one doesn’t get hugely satisfied with the work they’ve done or get disappointed at how it all turned out to be. Plus points to the whole team of Premam for the courage they’ve taken to put this onto the screen. In the end, Premam is again a simple love story which works for some people and gives bad vibes for others. Go with an open mind to draw a conclusion in the end.

Premam Telugu Movie Rating: 3/5

1 Rating for Courage and script

2 for Naga Chaitanya’s act in second half

3 for all the actress in the movie.

Cameos from Daggubati Venkatesh as Vikram’s father and Nithiin as Sithara’s husband make Premam a star studded affair.
